Opinion of the Director of training of the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF) on the modules developed under the Thrive project

The BPIF is the premier trade association for the printing and creative industries. It is also the leading provider to the printing and creative industries of apprenticeship and other training in the UK.

The person interviewed was Karly Lattimore, Director of Training and responsible for all training from apprenticeship to senior management training, all tailored to the industry and accredited by the appropriate body.

Self assessment tools – The tools were demonstrated to Ms Lattimore and she was particularly interested in the self assessment tool for female entrepreneurs as over 80% of apprenticeship entries were male. The tool could go some way to encouraging females to enter the industry by demonstrating a clear path to matching their particular needs. She said, “the information on strengths and development (areas) will absolutely enable individuals to develop weaker areas”. And continued, “the ability to retake will be able to show impact of learning activity”.

How can the modules be used? – This is the key question really so as to ensure that the modules, appropriating adapted for context, would be used. Ms Lattimore believed that the modules could be a key element when integrated into current practice by providing challenge at a higher level for suitable candidates. She said, “…the modules will support providing stretch and challenge to candidates progressing to a higher level”. And further, “The modules will enhance the current curriculum…”

Will you use the modules? – Ms Lattimore’s answer truly validated the work of the partners and the support of the EU. “Absolutely”, she said. And continued,  “…encouraging female entrepreneurs will definitely enhance our delivery”.

Work was starting on a revamp of the level 5 management training and she intended discussing the role of the modules the next day with her appropriate manager. She also promised that,“When we begin using the modules I will keep me informed…”
